Black and White Wednesday

I took this picture of Jordan at the end of November... It's so sweet and innocent and I just love it.

The problem is, I wasn't paying attention to my ISO setting and it's WAY too high... like, 1600.  Eeew - grainy!  Since I was shooting in JPEG and not RAW, there wasn't much I could do except soften it to get some of the graininess to smooth out.  I'm bummed because there's really not many opportunities to take a picture of Jordan looking so... calm.  It's not the greatest composition with the chair in the background (it was before I got my f/1.4 lens) but it's still a cute pose.

So, I softened it a bit and increased the contrast a little before converting it to black and white and adding a blue filter.  I don't know why blue, but it worked.  I'm not good enough to have all of the knowledge as to WHY I did something beyond enjoying the result...

Again, I'm not going to pretend I'm a photographer.

I just have cute kids.

I think its perfect! And I actually prefer a grainy look. Maybe because I love film so much?

Yes, my dear...you do have cute kids!

Question, which lens do you have? Is it the canon 50 mm 1.4? If so, how do you like it? If not, what is it? How did you learn what you do know?

I suppose I should have said qustions.

Beautiful, soft image. Very vintage in feeling. I also am guilty of shooting my ISO up and forgetting it's there. Anyway, this is a lovely capture!

What a sweet picture! It is wonderful to capture those moments. You will always remember how you felt when you look at them. Can you explain the ISO thing? Is it better to have a lower ISO setting when using JPEG format? I have so much to learn!

I'm no professional photographer either, but that's a great photo. Isn't it frustrating when you just miss those fleeting moments of appearing normal or laughing? It's extremely difficult for me to catch our boys in a candid shot, and they NEVER cooperate when I want to take their picture.

Not a photographer? Might want to rethink that one. Lovely photo. It's not often I catch my kids looking calm either, so I know exactly what you mean! And yes, you do have cute kids!
